The FDA distinction
FDA explains that some products labeled unscented can contain fragrance ingredients used to mask other smells. An absence of a noticeable scent therefore does not by itself prove that no fragrance ingredient was added. A fragrance-free statement and the exact ingredient list are different evidence from a personal smell impression.
The selected product statements
Mustela describes the selected sensitive face cream as fragrance-free. Aveeno and Aquaphor also use fragrance-free wording for the selected product families. These are maker or label statements; we have not analyzed the formulas or smelled the products. A generic flatlay cannot establish scent, composition or a personal tolerance result.
Retailer fields can differ
Target uses unscented as a scent field on selected listings while also presenting no-fragrance or fragrance-free wording elsewhere. Preserve the source wording instead of treating the field as proof of added masking fragrance or as a contradiction that automatically invalidates the maker statement. Check the exact received ingredient list and ask the maker about uncertainty.
Keep the safety boundary
Fragrance-free does not mean that every person is protected from every possible reaction. Other ingredients and individual circumstances remain outside a shopping-label comparison. This site provides no allergy clearance, patch-testing prescription or newborn safety guarantee. Use the actual product label and appropriate clinical advice for a personal concern.
An ordinary scent field is not an assay
Target labels a scent field unscented while maker or package wording may say fragrance-free. That is not evidence from a chemical analysis. It should prompt careful reading of the actual ingredient statement and source scope rather than a confident claim that masking fragrance is present or absent in every selected product.
Keep a personal reaction question separate
A fragrance-free statement can be a factual product field without guaranteeing that no ingredient can trouble an individual. The worksheet does not compare allergy histories or diagnose a reaction. A relevant personal concern should go to the actual maker and appropriate clinician rather than a cheapest-package result.
Before you decide
- Keep exact selected product, size and source date
- Separate label facts, source conflicts and individual questions
- Use actual package instructions; shopping tools supply no personal regimen
